Yoga Classes and Yin Yoga & Astrology THIS Saturday

Hi Cosmic Seekers, Yogis, & New Friends,

As the cool air wakes up new senses within us, the light begins to brighten slowly each day. If you know me through classes or personally – you know what a fan I am of winter. It is just so magical! 

As the Winter Solstice approaches, I am always drawn to this passage from John O’Donohue: 

“Light is incredibly generous, but also gentle. When you attend to the way the dawn comes, you learn how light can coax the dark. The first fingers of light appear on the horizon, and ever so deftly and gradually, they pull the mantle of darkness away from the world.”

This sentiment feels especially true now. Many traditions celebrate light and the first light of dawn during December. Perhaps this year, we are collectively lucky to have experienced survival in a more truer sense? I am also holding space in my heart for our loved ones who won’t join us this year. These times are so rich with gratitude and magic amongst our struggles. Twinkly lights don’t really do much on a bright sunny day, ya know?

While other people are busy baking cookies and wrapping gifts, I am over here charting the sky and preparing for our Yin Yoga & Astrology Workshop. Registration is still open, and you can read more below.  I’ll talk about the upcoming New Moon Eclipse, the Great Conjunction on the Winter Solstice, and how upcoming transits could be felt and witnessed.

Weekly yoga classes this week are on as scheduled, for our Tuesday class have a strap, robe sash, or belt. Opening up the back body and heart space feels so good .

My yoga classes are always open to all bodies and are offered on a sliding scale.

As we approach the “Great Conjunction” of 2020, Jupiter conjunct Saturn in Aquarius, we are poised for something new. This pairing of planetary energies occurs on the auspicious day of the Winter Solstice. There is so much astrology to contemplate, as we prepare ourselves for what is to come! Hope is rising with our Winter Sun. 

Yin yoga is a slower more introspective yoga practice, with all the cozy blankets you want. It is the perfect pairing to usher in the crisp air of winter as we let our minds and spirits ponder the planets above. 

Yin yoga harmonizes energies in the body through asana (postures) tuned along the lines of energy in the body – the meridians of Traditional Chinese Medicine. These energetic lines create aspects within our physical, mental, and emotional selves much like our planets create astrological aspects. We are our own solar system. In these workshops, I cover the current astrological transits – where the planets are in our universe at this point in time. Students will learn how the current astrological weather could be felt in our bodies, minds, and hearts; and how Yin Yoga can be used to facilitate harmony with what is, both in the sky and in ourselves. 

Grounded postures are held for long intervals followed by some counter postures or movement to realign. The practice teaches us how to stay and observe. When sensations arise, we learn how to pull our awareness inward rather than react to external forces. 

Our practice is gentle and open to beginners and seasoned yogis.

This class will take place via Zoom. Participants will be emailed link prior to workshop. We’ll use props such as yoga blocks, blankets, and straps. Good home item substitutes could be: a sturdy cushion or book, a pillow, a throw blanket or beach towel, and a belt from a robe or a sash.
